Елбрус

Русия

Elbrus is located in the Caucasus, on the territory of the Kabardino-Balkar Republic (part of the Russian Federation), only 10 km from the border with Georgia. With its 5642 m, it is the highest peak in the Caucasus and Russia. Whether it or Mont Blanc is the highest peak in Europe depends on the definition of the intra-Eurasian border. The Elbrus massif is an extinct and glacier-covered volcano with two peaks: the western one with a height of 5642 m and the eastern one - 5621 m. The distance between the two peaks is 1500 m. The lower one has a preserved crater with a diameter of nearly 250 m. A total of 22 glaciers descend the slopes of Elbrus towards the valley and cover an area of 145 km² with ice.
