Salzburg is home to Europe's largest medieval fortress "Hohensalzburg" - the crown of Mozart's city. Its construction began in 1077 by the Salzburg archbishop Gebhard. It acquired its present form after its expansion at the beginning of the 16th century, based on the idea of Archbishop Leonard von Koichach.
