Национален парк Тейде

Тенерифе, Испания

Teide National Park covers an area of 189.9 square kilometers. in the highest part of the island of Tenerife, Canary Islands. It is famous as the largest of all the national parks of Spain, and because of its unique nature, purity and intactness, it is under the auspices of UNESCO as part of the world's natural and cultural heritage.

The park was founded in 1954 and nowadays attracts between 3.5 and 4 million visitors a year. The area is much richer in plant and animal species than you can imagine. Many of them are found only here.

The park covers an area at an altitude of more than 2,000 meters and reaches the very top of the giant Teide volcano, a colossus that rises more than 7,000 meters from the bottom of the Atlantic. The sun moonscape here is misleading. If you climb to the top, do not forget to take into account the local climatic features. In summer the weather here is very hot and the sun is strong and the danger of burning is even higher compared to the lower coastal areas. During the winter months, temperatures drop below freezing and permanent snow cover can form. If you are climbing during this time of year, warm clothing is a must.
